The Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I³R) at the University of Arkansas provides university, government, and industry researchers with access to specialized facilities, shared equipment, technical expertise, and interdisciplinary collaborators in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Facilities and services are available on a fee-for-service basis; availability, training requirements, and pricing vary by capability.
Advanced Manufacturing & Prototyping
The Advanced Manufacturing & Prototyping laboratories provide access to additive manufacturing, precision machining, electronics fabrication, maker space resources, and a nearby cleanroom facility in the Nanoscience Building. Designed to support researchers, entrepreneurs, startups, industry partners, and students, the facility offers advanced manufacturing services, technical expertise, rapid prototyping, product development, and collaborative innovation resources. Available on a fee-for-service basis, it serves the University of Arkansas community as well as external academic, government, and industry organizations developing, testing, and scaling new technologies and products.
Wet Labs
The I³R Wet Lab Facility brings together specialized biological science laboratories, a molecular biology core, advanced cell culture environments, and shared research support space to help researchers move discoveries toward real-world impact. The facility also supports New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and Novel Alternative Methods that promote more ethical and efficient research by replacing, reducing, and refining animal experimentation.
Human Health Innovation
The Human Health Innovation laboratories provide state-of-the-art facilities for human subjects research, including studies focused on neurological health, mobility, rehabilitation, human performance, and disability research. Researchers have access to advanced imaging, neurotechnology, biomechanics, motion capture, and metabolic assessment capabilities, including the Siemens MAGNETOM Cima.X 3T MRI, EEG, fNIRS, TMS, eye-tracking, whole-body calorimetry, and the Brainlab Loop-X platform. These resources support translational research, clinical innovation, and the development of technologies that improve human health and quality of life.
Digital Transformation
The Immersive Experience Lab and Computational Modeling & Data Science Lab support research and innovation in extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR), spatial computing, digital twins, simulation, computational modeling, and data science. Equipped with advanced XR head-mounted displays, eye-tracking technology, and immersive locomotion platforms, the labs provide resources for human-computer interaction, visualization, immersive training, user behavior analysis, predictive modeling, and the development and testing of digital solutions across a wide range of scientific, engineering, healthcare, and industrial applications.
Surgical Innovation & Medical Technology
The Surgical Innovation & Medical Technology laboratories support research and development in surgical technology, medical imaging, medical device innovation, neuroscience, and translational medicine. Researchers have access to advanced pre-clinical laboratories, surgical training environments, intraoperative imaging systems, robotic research platforms, electrophysiology resources, histology and cell culture laboratories, and custom device fabrication capabilities. Integrated technologies support surgical visualization, image-guided procedures, physiological monitoring, neurostimulation, biomedical engineering, and the development and evaluation of novel surgical tools and healthcare technologies.
Receptions and Events
Open event spaces throughout the building provide versatile settings for receptions, networking events, donor gatherings, research showcases, performances, lectures, and community programs. Options include indoor and outdoor venues, lounges, an expansive central atrium, and gathering spaces with views of Dickson and Duncan Streets. These adaptable environments can serve as standalone venues or be combined to support larger events, creating memorable experiences within a setting that reflects innovation, collaboration, and discovery.
Meetings and Workshops
Conference rooms are available in traditional boardroom, classroom, seminar, and casual collaboration configurations, offering capacities from 4 to 40 participants. Many spaces feature integrated audiovisual technology, presentation equipment, whiteboards, and hybrid meeting capabilities to support everything from team discussions and trainings to workshops, seminars, and executive meetings. Designed for flexibility and productivity, these rooms provide professional environments for both in-person and virtual engagement.
Tour Our Building
The building is located on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, within walking distance of the Dickson Street Entertainment District and the Ramble Arts Corridor. Its location was chosen to encourage interaction between the campus community and the surrounding business and innovation district. Nearby entrepreneurship resources include the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, Startup Junkie, and the Brewer Family Entrepreneurship Hub. The Harmon Avenue Parking Garage is adjacent to the building, providing convenient parking access.
